Just Getting to Know Myself

For those who don't already know me, my name is Bryson Adkins. I'm 22 years old and the CEO of Visionaries Most Wanted. My zodiac sign is Cancer. I was born in the city of Detroit and moved to West Michigan at just 3 years old. I find it hard to talk about myself a lot, often not knowing what to say. I figured as I am getting to know myself, I can give others an opportunity to get to know me.

My whole life, I've been drawn to the art of storytelling. When I was just 7 years old, I used to take paper from the home printer and would make books. They weren’t just picture books, either. They had long, drawn-out paragraphs of misspelled words and chicken scratch handwriting.

In the 4th grade, we had the opportunity to make books and get them published. Mine was called The Book of Awesomeness. This was my very first published work, and I still have that book to this day. However, writing books was never really my passion. I happened to be captivated by the love of creating stories from thin air.

Then I fell in love with cameras at a young age. For my 10th birthday, I received one of those little digital cameras that had such a 2012 vibe. I would often take pictures of random things. Not too long after getting that camera, I ended up breaking it. I was not gifted another camera after that...

My sophomore year of high school, we got to choose some of our elective courses, and I really wanted to take strength and conditioning, but instead, they put me in Video Production. Little did I know how much this class would shape my entire future.

My first group project was just making a skit. My group members weren’t very engaged with it, but I ended up taking the reins: writing the script, making the storyboard with stick figures, and editing the video. Needless to say, it was bad, but it was cool to see everyone enjoy a project that I had made.

During my junior year of high school, I ended up taking advanced video production. We had higher-quality cameras and were editing on more advanced software. During our assemblies, we had a news van in the back of the school flipping through the various channels. I also got to operate the huge cameras in the gym. Unfortunately, this was the year the COVID-19 pandemic hit, but this didn’t stop me completely.

During the pandemic, I was able to press pause on all the stress. I was able to be with myself and collect my thoughts. I took on making cooking videos. I didn’t have a quality camera, but my cooking skills are amazing. I used this time to sharpen my chef skills, making very informative videos.

I ended up getting my first job, making cooking videos no longer resonated with me. I still kept in mind the love for making videos, but not by doing the same thing over and over again. In my early 20s, I ended up picking back up on making more commentary videos.

Then, only to put it back down, deleting every video I had on YouTube. Only because it did not resonate after a certain point. I knew I couldn’t really give it up because I really enjoyed creating videos.

At that point, I was only filming on a phone, so I purchased a camera. I was in awe that the quality was exponentially better, both with filming and doing photography on the side. I was slightly happier with what I was doing, but I still felt like something was missing and that I hadn’t quite found my passion yet.

Until around June 2023, I stumbled upon a casting ad to be an extra in a movie that was filmed in Kalamazoo, Michigan, about 45 minutes away from where I lived. I filled out the application, submitted my headshots, and filmed my audition tape saying, “You should choose me because I’m so fun at parties.”

About a month later, I received the email that I was accepted for the role. It felt like I was given my first story mode mission, like in a video game. So, I boarded a Greyhound bus and booked a hotel room.

To be totally honest, I have to say that my experience on that film set was literally hell. Between the graveyard hours, cold nights spent in the water for hours, and a girl trying to poison everyone with moldy peanuts that she knew were expired.

But the directors and producers were so nice and engaging. I was able to see behind the scenes of the film, and I was amazed to see the camera at work. The beautiful display of how the cameras were able to capture the actors.

I knew then that this was my purpose. I've made many cool friends on that set because our purposes and dreams had aligned. I slowly started filming more, taking more pictures.

In college, I explored performing arts through acting classes, honing my skills and expressing myself creatively. I also ventured into directing, gaining a deeper understanding of how to bring scripts to life. Additionally, I studied journalism to learn about media etiquette and the fundamentals of effective communication.

These experiences expanded my horizons, helping me discover new territories of interests and skills that have shaped my growth. When I wasn't working or in class, I would use a lot of my downtime to write out movie scripts and storylines. I've gained so much momentum; so far, I have eight different movie outlines written.

On June 15, 2024, I finally established Visionaries Most Wanted, my very own production company. Since then, I have been slowly building and trying to improve. I knew beforehand that I wanted my own studio. I knew that when I launched, I had to start somewhere but always remember growth.

It’s been a bumpy process, as I am still getting to know myself and my purpose, as well as doing everything I can to invest in the visions and dreams I want to bring to life. To know that starting my own production company would bring an abundant sense of fulfillment warms my heart.

More blogs, stories, and articles will be posted regularly, as well as teasers for any upcoming projects. Be sure to follow the social media pages linked to the icons on the website. I hope you enjoyed the read.
